View Full Version : Does the University brand name matters ?

I see that most of the Indians going abroad do not take the brand name much into consideration. They just apply to some international university and go study there.I have always been reminded by international students that it is easy to get a 'good job' easily if you dont pass out from a top university.
The fact is that getting a job abroad after completing your graduation is not that easy even if you pass out from a top 20 university. There are many students who return back to India because they dont get a job. :(
I could notice that many Indian students apply to low rank universities in UK.Hardly few students go to top unis like Oxford,LSE,Bristol and warwick and many more.Rest all are in rank 50 to 100 Unis in UK.
Still why do Indian students take chances ? Is there any reason or somthing ?I want to know please.

Brand name matters, and brand name university comes with a price. In order to get into a brand mane university you should have the right score and the money, or you should be an exceptional student to get scholarship. Most students choose a university that is affordable and that offers the course they are looking for, so it really depends on 3 major factors your score, money and the course. Regarding job; this also depends on the industry, right now there is a high demand in IT, finance and healthcare so you should get a good job if your course is in these industry.

There will be 'high fees and high living cost' anywhere you go abroad. It is your job to think beforehand if you are ready to take a challenge and will be able to manage it or not.

I know about the high fees abroad. But i compare London unis with unis like Warwick then you will find the difference.Warwick is a reputed and a top rank uni.The living cost are cheap as compared to London anytime.

I am looking for a direct second year entry for Computer Science.I have the rankings n stuff. The main problem i am facing is that i am going for a direct second year entry after completing my diploma ( its possible and i know few students who did the same ).I see the offers like AAA,AAB,ABB etc but these are not for students who are going for direct admission.I want to know what type of offers do students like me usually get.

Few students i know who did the same got into some low rank university. So the offer was not of that importance.I am looking for som uni which is in top 30 for computer science.I got 56 % in my second year diploma n will get around 65 % this year hopefully.

Thanks for your concern :)

Oh Sorry, I misread your post.

I suggest you e-mail/phone the admission offices asking if they accept your qualification and the grade you need to get an admission.

Also, Find out more information from the UCAS website.

My diploma is of three years. When i apply for some UK uni. Do they give me a conditional offer based on my second year marks ? I guess they are interested only in the final year marks.
I was supposed to meet the international officer from University of Nottingham, who was present at their representatives office in my city.I called them up to RE-CONFIRM my appointment. The agent said that as i had only 56 % in my second year they wont even consider my application.I will simply get rejected.According to me and few of my friends in England i will easily get a conditional offer from University of Nottingham.
Let me know what you feel.

Universities have interviews here so don't feel as though it is the end. They do interviews to check that you are able to work to their standard. If you perform well at your interview then your results wont matter as much.

Your results are not everything. You do have a chance of getting a conditional offer.
